Light Weight New England Rifle
This is a light weight version of a N.E. rifle that I built
in 2008. I used the same 54 cal barrels that I used on my swivel breech rifles. The barrels are 34 inches long,
tapered from .850 to .750. As a result the finished rifle weighs just under six lbs. There is a second set
of barrels for this rifle, 28 gauge smooth bore. The wood on this particular rifle is cherry and stained very
dark .
The shape and design of the rifle is a copy of an antique N.E. rifle, just scaled down a little smaller.
The design of the checkering is an exact copy of the original rifle as is the silver inlay and wire in the cheek piece. This
is a full size rifle, not a miniature or a child’s rifle.
The rifle was liked so much by everyone that handled
it that I decided to develop it into a kit.
